I may not be a sports fan, but I’ve got to hand it to the Super Bowl for making me feel quite patriotic right now. No, not because of the Pledge of Allegiance (although that was a good performance), and not because it’s “Amurican” to watch these athletes to throw the old pigskin around. No, I’m loving the red, white and blue right now because right after a brief teaser of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, they told viewers to head over to FoxSports.com, and as it turns out, we don’t just get another brief preview, we got a brand spankin’ new trailer. Check it out below!
Plot-wise, this trailer hardly reveals anything new, and I’m okay with that, because what it lacks in story details it more than makes up for in action. We’ve got more Cap fighting enemies, including taking down an airship with his shield, we’ve got more shots of Falcon in flight, we’ve got Black Widow with her guns and grappling hook, and best of all, we’ve got the Winter Soldier demonstrating why he’s one of the most deadly assassins ever, metal arm and all.
One moment that especially caught my attention is when Nick Fury tells Cap that he’s in charge now. We know Cap will be wearing a costume similar to his Super Soldier suit from a couple years ago, but is it possible he might take control of S.H.I.E.L.D. during the movie? Also, seeing Natasha crying next to the corpse covered by the sheet has me suspecting that that’s Bucky under the sheet, and that the movie may retain her ties with Winter Soldier from the comics. We know from The Avengers that she has history in Russia, so perhaps they knew each other at some point. Sure, the body could just be another S.H.I.E.L.D. agent she knew, but a guy can hope, right?
I’m super pumped up by this trailer, so I’ll leave you now with some screenshots from the trailer. Man, April cannot come soon enough!
Update: Marvel has also released several new stills for the film.
