007 Legends Announced: Celebrate 50 Years of James Bond

Well… this sounds exciting. It’s the 50th anniversary of the James Bond series this October, and to celebrate the milestone, Activision are releasing a game called 007 Legends, which will tie together movies starring each actor to play James Bond in an ”original, over-arching storyline”. Yup, all six Bonds.

Legends will include missions from several classic Bond movies, along with missions from the latest installment in the film series: Skyfall, which is released this October. You’ll be able to use gadgets, a probably massive arsenal of weapons including Bond’s trademark Walther PPK, in a globe-trotting storyline featuring villains, the random thugs you see in the first level of the game and smash to pieces (aka henchmen), and multiple Bond girls.

David Oxford at Activision Publishing said: “To honor 50 years of the world’s top secret agent, 007 Legends offers a collection of his most famed moments in the smartest and most treacherous Bond game yet. Creating a video game storyline that ties together six popular, yet very different, Bond movie narratives can be challenging, but together with EON Productions, our developer Eurocom, has pulled it off to create an homage that we think will be a unique and highly entertaining Bond video game.”

You can play as multiple characters, either friends or enemies of Bond. The multiplayer can be played offline with Call of Duty-style up-to-four-players split screen action, or online with maps, characters and weapons from said classic Bond movies.

Sounds pretty exciting, right? (Well, it does if you’re someone who’s been brought up on James Bond films.) 007 Legends is out in the autumn on PS3 and Xbox 360.
