GREEN LANTERN: THE ANIMATED SERIES “Larfleeze” Review

The latest episode of Green Lantern: The Animated Series got hype from fans due to the fact that fan-favorite character Larfleeze would be making his animated debut here. Note: I am NOT a fan of Larfleeze in the comics. Did this episode make me change my opinion? Spoilers follow.

In this episode, Hal Jordan (Josh Keaton), Razer (Jason Spisak), and Kilowog (Kevin Michael Richardson) make the decision to head to the planet Okaara, so that they can locate the legendary Orange Lantern battery, so that they can use it to defeat Aya (Grey DeLisle). However, the Orange Lantern battery is being guarded by a greedy alien named Larfleeze (Dee Bradley Baker). And even if they can defeat Larfleeze, is the Orange battery something that they really want?

After last week’s epic episode, this one felt…..tame, honestly. For some reason, I just couldn’t get into it. The main reason might be Larfleeze; in the comics, I never got his popularity. He is plain annoying. And this episode did little to sway me over to his side. He just isn’t funny, and the writers made him look pathetic and weak here. At least in the comics he can fight; viewing this episode, you would be forgiven for thinking that Carol Ferris could beat up this guy.

Actually, most of the “funny” scenes in this episode I didn’t find particularly humorous. Most of the lines fell flat. The only scene that made me chuckle involved Aya’s replacement AI system.

Hehe heheh. None can have my precious…

On the action side, nothing really stood out. Maybe it is because last week had exceptional fights, but this episode’s action didn’t really hold my attention.

And I’m afraid that the plot made no sense, either. Why would Hal assume that the Orange Lantern could defeat Aya? It sounds tough, but she is blowing up whole stars! C’mon Hal! And at the end, they just decide not to use the Orange Lantern after all. O-kay?

I wanted to like this episode, but compared to the previous episode, it was boring. And Larfleeze is awful, I’m sorry.
