X-Men Gets a Makeover in April

Earlier this year, this lovely little image hit the information super highway; teasing a new X-Men book that was going to join the already stacked Marvel NOW! initiative. Besides a bundle of fan rumors, there was really nothing concrete as to what the new series was going to be.  But then, out of the blue, we received this revealing image.

That’s right, X-Men (one of the more overlooked X-Books) is getting a “woman’s touch” so to speak. Some of the team’s sexiest and heaviest hitters: Storm, Psylocke (Both of them also star in the new Uncanny X-Force coming later this month), Rogue (Also part of the Uncanny Avengers), Rachel Grey, Kitty Pryde, & everyone’s favorite Vampire Jubilee will be headlining the 4th volume of the series.

Current X-Men scribe Brian Wood and “event comic” (mostly because he works on event comics) artist Olivier Coipel are the creative team behind it. Honestly I like this idea; not too many of the X-Ladies get their fair share of the spotlight. Brian Wood is a pretty good writer and Olivier Coipel is a very capable artist. So in theory this should work.

Not much is known about the book at this point; but in an interview for “USA Today”, Wood explained his process and the structure he wants for the book:

“I’m definitely an X-Men fan, but I’m not deep into the world,” says Wood, who’s pairing with artist Olivier Coipel. “I’m not a writer who’s been writing it forever, so my natural instinct is to go basic and simple and to its core.

“Marvel takes a look at its spectrum of X-Men books and fills needs. This is the book that is like a traditional X-Men book.”

The book hits your LCS (local comic shop) in April. So what do you guys think? Is this all female X-Team a good idea; or do you think the world saving should be left to the men? Give us your thoughts in the comment section below.
