Is Christmasland something good or bad? Read on to find out.

“Three escaped convicts are looking for a set of wheels that can carry them to freedom. Charlie Manx has just the ride they need… but when they get to Christmasland, they’ll wish they went to prison instead. Ten years of hard time looks pretty easy compared to 24 hours in a frozen graveyard disguised as the world’s coldest, cruelest amusement park.”

Okay, so the writer and creator of Locke and Key, has come out with this interesting series call Wraith and I think that it’s fascinating. IWraith-03-pr-1-68083 mean it really interesting stuff going on in this issue. The issue starts with three convicts on their way to a place called “Christmasland” thanks to a very mysterious driver, who has helped them escape but it doesn’t seem to be all it seems. As they are driving, the convicts talk about their experiences and how they got know their fates. It’s something that I didn’t think would be possible but you feel compassion for them and have the sense of their impending doom. When they finally arrive, it makes you wonder if prison wasn’t that bad and opens up questions about this new home that they are being in.

The writing is spot on for this kind of story. The creepy feeling that you get from the driver and his ability to be charming and evil is spot on. I think that it really works and you can totally see where the “Locke and Key” influence comes in. I can’t wait to read the next issue because of how entertaining that it is. I really enjoy it.

The art is simplistic and dark. This is not a bright and happy comic book. It is really great. I mean the way the artist takes the words and brings us the story in picture form is amazing. It really works.

Overall, I give this issue a 5 out of 5 for it’s awesome ability to be creepy and develop its characters.

5/5
