SHOWDOWN WITH THE WITCHBLADE OF THE WILD WEST!
In the days of the Wild West, before Sara Pezzini claimed her destiny, Witchblade bearer Sheriff Enola protected the high plains from the Darkness that lurked beyond the horizon. Although her townspeople lived in peace, they were always mistrusting of their sheriff-witch. With her town seeking to banish her and the Darkness angling for a duel, will the Witchblade be enough to save Enola from becoming a footnote in the annals of the blade’s history?

It’s been awhile since fans got a tale revolving around a prior wielder, but can this supernatural yarn really fit within the context of the era it’s trying to embody? The simple answer is: yes it can.

Joshua Hale Fialkov delivers a narrative the reeks of classic western motifs in all the right ways as it clings to tropes usually associated with that storied genre.  Yes at the end of the day this is a tale about a female sheriff who happens to be a bearer of the blade but it’s also a simple adventure set in a rural town.  It’s a place where good meets evil and justice gets its day by the final page.  Truth be told there were a couple wobbly parts to the saga but these minor instances do little to detract from the overall experience.

Nelson Blake II and Dave McCaig deliver some very simplistic panels that exude the talents of both artists.  Each rendition breathes fantastic visual life into the script as the narrative slowly but surely rides to a fitting conclusion.  I especially loved the simpler moments, where the artifacts in question were used in creative ways that I honestly didn’t think I’d see (one in particular).  In short from a visual perspective this comic book is more than worth your hard earned cash.

Witchblade: Day of the Outlaw #1 is an absolutely engaging experience that honestly left me grinning from ear to ear as our heroine rode out.  Highly recommended.
