Uncanny X-Men #2 Review

Previously in Uncanny X-Men:

  • Cyclops, Magick, Emma Frost, & Magneto have started a new school to train young mutants
  • Their power don’t work to well
  • Annnnd Magneto has gone all Benedict Arnold and is helping Maria Hill take down Scott

How will Scott in his team fare in a world that “hates & fears” them…when their powers decide to get a mind of their own?

Here is the summary from Marvel:

There is a mole on Cyclops’ team, but who is it?When you hunt the UNCANNY X-MEN you use Sentinels, but when you find out WHO’S DOING THE HUNTING your jaw will drop!

Cyclops & crew have established a new base inside an abandoned Weapon X facility and have begun finding and training young mutants. However, his team’s powers have gone haywire: His optic blasts spaz out, Emma’s telepathy fades in and out, Magneto can barely lift a sentinel without passing out, and Magik…well shes just plain damn scary. They think of their next move and decide to go to Australia to check on Eva’s (the girl with time powers they picked up waaaay back in AnX 2) mother, but when they get there, a battle that they are not yet prepared for begins to descend from the sky…literally.

Brian Michael Bendis continues to do good work for the X-Men. He spotlights a bit on Emma this issue and some of the struggles she has gone through since AvX; she hates the “silence” caused by her missing telepathy and she actually begins to regret some of her decisions regarding her & Scott. Their status quo is still being developed and it will be interesting to see where he takes this.

While I’m not the biggest fan of Chris Bachalo, he does good work on this issue. giving more subtle work as opposed to his usual high energetic style. The last page is also a great preview for the huge battle next issue.

Uncanny X-Men continues to roll forward as Cyclops and his team continue to find somewhere to fit in the world as they form their own version of Xavier’s dream.

Bachalo needs to do a better job distinguishing between Emma and Magik. Also, Emma needs to go back to wearing white.
