Should you fathom sifting through this teen drama? Or is it better to ignore this burgeoning franchise? Read on to find out.

The official description from Aspen:

All Hell breaks loose as Trish and her friends are dangerously confronted by those under the surface, and the group must tragically separate for their own good. However, a bigger surprise waits for Trish, as she discovers secrets about herself that will forever change her life – for better – or worse!

Trish Out of Water 4_CLet me start off by saying that this is a title to watch. I know that the idea of having a brand new protagonist in a familiar world might sound like the possibility of retreading already covered ground is more than rampant, but trust me the risk is worth it. Especially because we get to see the actions of a creative team that after just four issues succeed in delivering a more than compelling odyssey.

The script by Vince Hernandez is rock solid, as the author uses his abilities to flesh out the players while delving out enough humor to make the whole outlandish thing seem normal and acceptable. When it comes to the written word this scribe has nailed the persona of a teenager, but nonetheless gives Trish enough breathing room to rise to a challenge. There are moments that rely far too much on overly corny anecdotes but the bulk of this romp builds itself up enough to get me excited for next month’s conclusion.

Giuseppe Cafaro handles the illustrations, and I have to say that this talent impresses me from the first page to the final panel. Whether he’s dealing with elements above or below the surface he has a knack at chaotic but controlled renditions. His line work flows like running water, as it cascades and crescendos into a larger whole that will leave people begging for more. In shot: the text turned out to be really good but the art was great.

Trish Out of Water #4 is by no means perfect but it certainly has my attention and it deserves to garner yours as well. Recommended.
