Tomorrowland #2 Review

When faced with their destiny how should our two DJs react?  Should you care? Read on to find out.

The official description from Titan:

The music-led adventure from the Eisner award-winning writer of Wolverine: Origin and The Darkness continues!

Dimitri Vegas and Like Mike, DJs at the world-renowned Tomorrowland festival, have been pulled into an eternal war between the forces of creation and destruction. Can they turn the tide in favour of creativity over the course of just one festival – even with William Shakespeare, Oscar Wilde, and hundreds of creators from throughout history on their side?!

It’s a simplistic tale that echoes a charm brought forth from the Bill and Ted series but with a decidedly modern twist.  There are some stumbles here and there but overall this is a creative release that represents some solidly entertaining thoughts.

Paul Jenkins pens the script and I have to say the writer still has such a potent grasp on dialogue, as his ability to deliver believable conversations in the most out of this world scenarios is truly tremendous. I did find a few of the sequences to be a bit rough around the edges as historical references felt a wee bit forced but for the most part the scribe found a balance between the past, present and eventually the future.  In the end: we have two strong leads that show the power of their abilities when faced with eternal darkness, as odd as that might sound.

Since the text is good it really fell to the shoulders of the illustrators to make this tale shimmer and shine.  Thankfully the work of Alti Firmansyah and Beny Maulana does just that.  As the individual character work coalesces and combines into something not extraordinary but surely worthy of the attention of any curious fanboys or fangirls.  Exaggerated features but detailed forms litter the playing field as this honestly goofy jaunt grows into its shoes.  To sum up the renditions on display: the art is steady from beginning to end.

Tomorrowland #2 is good comic that certainly earns a chance to be on your pull-list.  Recommended.
