Think Tank #5 Review

Is the world really ready for what this exceptionally crafted comic book continues to offer?  Read on to find out.

The official description from Image:

Genius slacker Dr. David Loren outsmart the government, the military, and the all of the brightest minds in science to escape the think tank he used to call his home and his job. But his tropical retreat isn’t as secluded as he would hope!

If it’s possible this already smart romp added a few more wrinkles to it’s already complex design and yes, it’s getting even better.  With it’s second arc kicking off here the book yields yet another compelling story and it’s only the first part.  There are new toys for the creative team to play with and they don’t waste any time on nonsensical rants they just go to work.

The script by Matt Hawkins is simply top-notch. Probably my favorite thing about what’s done here is the author’s willingness to touch on issues that seem to be morally uncomfortable for the average human being but still finding a way to play it off with a dark twist of satire and morbid curiosity.  Doing it that way is what makes this saga a continuing treat for me, as it not only challenges barriers but it also breaks them down with a Cheshire smile.  Beyond that though the dialogue has never been better as the words literally jump off the proverbial page.

I can’t say enough good things about the art by Rahsan Ekedal.  The level of professionalism brought forth and applied to each design will impress readers.  The concrete intent behind each pencil stroke extenuates not just the talent of this gifted illustrator but the written word he seeks to augment.  The end result is something truthfully special, as Dr. David Loren and his friends or enemies talk.  That’s right the majority of this tale is slow and with a lesser artist handling the panels this could have been one lackluster affair.

Think Tank #5 should be heralded as a prominent example of how you handle the sequel to a stellar opener.  Highly recommended.
