Think Tank #10 Review

After the events contained in the previous outing, where does it go from here?  Read on to find out.

The official description from Image:

“OUTBREAK,” Part Two

Slacker genius Dr. David Loren made a calculated gamble that the US government would never allow his latest DNA-targeting virus to go airborne… and lost. Can he mitigate the collateral damage triggered by his deadly invention? Or will he lose everyone he loves?

First and foremost what separates this franchise from your run of the mill purchase at your local comic shop is the clear and hefty amount of information that the creative team seems innately committed to give you. They’re not trying to bog down events with unnecessary subterfuge, but rather instill the importance in even the most mundane reactions. This issue continues that tradition, and trust me at this point there’s still a lot to learn about these characters and the lives they survive.

Matt Hawkins pens the script and the seasoned professional impresses me.  He uses the written word to highlight the government’s response to a covert ops mission blunder, or was it?  That’s the idea that will be successfully germinating in the back of every audience member’s mind.  To the author’s credit he uses that aspect at great length to highlight the strength and inevitable shortcomings of our protagonist.  Dr. David Loren has been through a lot but it seems Uncle Sam isn’t done with this particular genius just yet.

The art by Rahsan Ekedal is once again a treat for the visual senses.  He immerses all of us in a black and white world that echoes more than enough detail and realism to sell us on the concepts in front of us.  The overall body of work is quite excellent but there were a couple moments where some of the facial designs seemed slightly off.  These minor hiccups were by no means a deal breaker for this affair, they merely acted as momentary distractions.

Think Tank #10 is truly a great comic book that had some minor stumbles here and there.  Nonetheless this text heavy journey earns another recommendation.
