The Darkness #111 Review

Prodigy enters its third act but has this crossover really done anything important for these properties?  Read on to find out.

The official description from Image:

“WRATH OF THE WITCHBLADE!”

Jackie crafted the world as he saw fit. For the longest time, nobody noticed. As master of the shadows, he knows that he must operate outside of the spotlight if he wants to get what he truly wants. But there are those who know the unbalance Jackie caused. Witchblade bearer Sara Pezzini knows what Jackie stole from her and the time has come for her to make Jackie pay.

So far through this arc we’ve come to understand some shocking revelations, as several players entered some dire times.  And with just one more part to go I’m left wondering if this is just an interlude for something greater, but whatever the case may be the outstanding creative teams have certainly crafted something special as they threaten to end the world once again.

David Hine absolutely delivers as he progresses the plot lines he’s been working on while simultaneously reveling in their larger implications.  From the first page to the final panel the seasoned author effortlessly paints a rather depressing yet engaging confrontation.  But with that said, nothing is really accomplished and by the time we reach the climax we’re certainly left wanting.  Sure there’s enough that will disturb curious readers while entertaining the core audience members but it’s too good and over rather quickly.

When it comes to the pencils by Jeremy Haun this comic has simply been blessed with an exceptional talent.  He brings a certain air of authenticity to each stylistic line as he firmly designs each page.  He yields what can only be described as a definitive rendition for this storied property and I honestly have zero complaints about the work on display.

The Darkness #111 is an exemplary addition to what has already been a sterling run.  From the character interactions to the varied action sequences that are littered through out this team brings everything to bare as the devious Doppelganger makes his presence known.  Highly recommended.
