“BREAKING DARK,” Part Two

Jackie Estacado and his crew, along with his Doppelganger, move in to take out Balakov and his organization. When they do… they will find that Balakov has a very unexpected and deadly ally. DAVID HINE (THE DARKNESS: FOUR HORSEMEN, THE BULLETPROOF COFFIN) and JEREMY HAUN (ARTIFACTS, Detective Comics) follow up their horrific first arc with a four-part story that will make you question everything you think you know about the Top Cow universe.

The perfect life is a very hard thing to aspire to and sadly re-creating the universe just doesn’t lead to it.  Our hero has made some mistakes along the way and this creative team has been very good at reminding him of all of them, while inventing some new ones to torture and torment our cast of characters.

David Hine is easily one of the most talented writers to grace this book, as each issue builds on the previous one giving the series the feeling of an escalating crescendo that’s sure to erupt in a narrative mess .  His characterizations of both the world and the leads therein is perfectly in-line with established lore as he continues to offer twists and turns to keep the reader guessing.  To put it short: you could not ask for a better author for this storied title.

Jeremy Haun absolutely delivers on every possible artistic level.  His pencil strokes go from somber to action moments with ease, all the while still bearing the uniquely eerie and somewhat creepy tone that’s been infused in this series since he came on board.  His unique visual panels offer fans a glimpse into some truly traumatic moments that are slowly peeling away at both the physical and psychological aspects of our hero and his family.

The Darkness #107 is not just another excellent issue from an exemplary creative team, but it also carries a final page that will get fans thoroughly excited for whatever stories are about to come next.  Highly Recommended.
