Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Secret History of the Foot Clan #4 Review

The epic conclusion to this sterling mini-series is here, but does the ending live up to fan expectations?  Read on to find out.

The official description from IDW:

In Feudal Japan, Oroku Saki decimates his opponents and cements his control over the Foot Clan… control that will last for centuries! Meanwhile, in the present day, the TMNT and the Foot Clan enter into a pitched battle for the History of the Foot Clan’s sacred text. Secrets and betrayal are the order of the day for this final chapter of a landmark mini-series!

When going back and revealing key aspects in a re-telling of a classic property, there’s certainly plenty of room for expansion.  The brilliant thing about this particular journey is that the creative team uses their time wisely as they further connect aspects of the Foot Clan with that of Krang‘s ambitions ultimately yielding a world that is more connected than it initially appeared.

Mateus Santolouco and Erik Burnham work together to bring this script to fruition and they can certainly be very proud of the end results.  Not only was this particular release entertaining but it was also informative as we discovered the means in which the Shredder returned.  There weren’t really any unexpected twists or turns but by the final page I was positively riveted as all the varying pieces finally clicked into place. Credit goes to this duo of authors that fostered this tale to become not just a tie-in but an exceptional treat in its own right.

Mateus Santolouco handles the art and the talent displays versatility, giving solid expressions to characters along with fluid actions in some key sequences.  Each pencil stroke highlights the chaotic but nuanced nature of the narrative as our heroes charge forward in their path to re-discover themselves and their enemy.  If you’re looking for a visceral visual experiencethen look no further than the work on display here.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Secret History of the Foot Clan #4 is one book that has an exceptional script and thoroughly detailed illustrations that easily make it a highly recommended purchase.
