Stephen Colbert Is MARVEL’s New Falcon!

On last night’s episode of The Colbert Report, Marvel’s Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada made the official announcement that The Falcon would become the new Captain America. You can read our thoughts on Sam Wilson inheriting Steve Rogers’ legacy here, but needless to say the spectacled host of the faux news show was disappointed. After all, he expected that he would be the new Captain America, especially since he’s had one of Cap’s shields hanging in his studio since 2007.

However, just because he’s not the new star-spangled Avenger doesn’t mean Colbert can’t inherit another superhero identity. Colbert wisely pointed out to Quesada that with Wilson as the new Captain, someone needs to take over as the new Falcon. Agreeing, Quesada revealed a piece of artwork from Kris Anka of Colbert as The Falcon.

Way to represent for glasses wearers, Stephen! Superman may be the most famous spectacled superhero, but you don’t see him fighting crime with them on! Well, technically he doesn’t need them, but you get my point! Maybe others feel differently, but Colbert looks like a good fit as the winged hero. He’s even got the comic book muscles to boot! Granted, he doesn’t have a falcon sidekick, but it wouldn’t be right for the patriotic talk show host to fight crime without an eagle at his side.

Okay, so he’s not really going to be the new Falcon. With all the talk of a new Captain America, lady Thor, superior Iron Man and everything else, a Falcon replacement hasn’t been announced yet. However, the funny thing is that technically Colbert could take the role since he is a character in the Marvel universe. He even ran for President of the United States in 2008 and beat Barack Obama and John McCain in the popular vote, although he didn’t earn enough electoral votes to move to the White House. I’m still pulling for you in 2016, Stephen!
