Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi – Prisoner of Bogan #5 Review

As this epic mini-series reaches its conclusion, will there be balance in the galaxy?  Read on to find out.

The official description from Dark Horse:

Je’daii Daegen Lok is on the verge of launching a war against the Je’daii. With the Force-strong stranger Xesh as his ally and a young Je’daii captive, Lok is close to his goal.

But Je’daii Rangers are close behind, as the Masters at the Temples have unlocked some of the secrets of Xesh’s origins. Something worse than the prisoner of Bogan is loose in the Tython system!

War!  It’s coming to the Star Wars universe, whether devoted fanboys or eager fangirls are ready for the potential ramifications.  Through the madness of one man’s crusade the warriors for the light side of the Force might actually have a chance against this coming storm, but there are forthcoming betrayals that might just derail their plans.

The script by John Ostrander does a superb job closing things out while setting the pieces in place for the next chapter in this conflict.  The players are lined up, as the author brings forth conclusions and necessary transitions that will get an already captive audience excited for what’s coming around the bend. There were a couple times where the dialogue was too thick and came off a bit sloppy, but nonetheless the overall quality was high enough to make these momentary lapses inconsequential.

Jan Duursema handles the art and can I just say the level of detail and utter sophistication on display here was simply astounding.  Each pencil stroke informed the narrative while crafting a believable extension of this storied universe in a way that didn’t cheapen the subject matter.  I was immensely captivated by the battle sequences and despite some segments, where faces looked odd or even off, the greater portion of the finished product was beautifully realized as this talent did her thing.

Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi – Prisoner of Bogan #5 carries within it an impressive climax that does more than enough right to keep me and its primary followers thoroughly engaged for what comes next.  Highly recommended.
