Screwed #4 Review

This stimulating retelling of the classic myth reaches its fourth outing, but is it still worth a look?  Read on to find out.

The official description from Zenescope:

Anne is in police custody, but is it for her safety or theirs? As her memories start to return, certain faces lost in shadows become clear and Anne knows that she is in more danger now than ever and must escape. What happened to Agent Erin Scott a year ago that has made her cling so hard to this case…Who does Agent Simon work for exactly and why has Suture willingly turned himself over to the police?  The answers begin here.

Our protagonist has been through the wringer, as this tale of death, monsters and resurrection finds some definite soul.  Thanks to the work of the creative team, fans are sure to grin ear to ear as our amnesiac struts her stuff.  Regaining some of her past in the process, Anne is given yet another excuse to run as fast as she can.

Keith Thomas pens the script and it was without a doubt a stellar entry.  The plot has been a steadily evolving beast from the first action backed issue to this slightly refined more detective oriented release. It’s not that the author gives out information that we already know, but rather fills in the details finally humanizing all the elements and laying the literal cards on the table.  In short: this is a somewhat slowed down bit that emphasizes development and substance in this chaotically addictive journey.

The art by David Miller continues to be one of the strongest features in this franchise’s war chest.  Whether he’s asked to detail an intimate scene between our primary characters or an act of resurrection he’s more than up to the task.  There was just one panel that seemed off, as rushed details left me a bit confused but what the illustrator accomplished overall was an impressive and wholly consistent look that’s sure to please.

Screwed #2 is an outlandish but very entertaining passage in something that should be on everyone’s pull-list.  Highly recommended.
