Superior Foes of Spider-Man #15 Review

Is this franchise still an attention grabber? Read on to find out.

The official description from Marvel:

Still not CANCELLED!

• GANG WAR begins here. You know it’s a big deal because we put it in caps!

• Everyone gets in a big fight over the head of Silvio Silvermane. Lives are lost, feelings are hurt, and car keys get misplaced!

Superior Foes of Spider-Man 15_Preview PageIt’s true that the days may be numbered for this title but I have to say that hasn’t stopped the creative team from delivering yet another rewarding entry that builds on this current iteration of some villainous characters. Every aspect of the storytelling thus far has been exemplary, as this surprise hit born from the Superior era has captured the attention of many fanboys and fangirls involved in all levels of this dynamic industry.

Nick Spencer pens the script and the author continues to chart the course of this motley crew, even as they do what they need to in an attempt to reach their big pay day. It’s funny, of this bunch, I’m rooting for the corniest one of all as Shocker proves to be a somewhat out of sync but nonetheless interesting relic in this new Sinister Six. What makes the whole thing work is the fact that the scribe gives it a personality that feels legitimate even as we deal with the now found head of Silvio Silvermane, in a narrative that should feel far too over the top but it doesn’t.

The illustrations by Steve Lieber are once again immaculate representations of this medium. From beginning tot end the talent executes a controlled but consistent array of visuals that perfectly line-up with the intent of the written word. It’s not often but every once in awhile I have to go back and ignore the text to fully appreciate the art on display, which happened here, especially when the colors by Rachelle Rosenberg came into play.

Superior Foes of Spider-Man #15 is another engaging representation of innate creativity. Every sequence pulsates with a purpose and personality that easily marks this as required reading for enthusiasts. Highly recommended.
