Star Wars: Legacy #16 Review

With the rights about to revert, does this specific extension do enough to garner attention in its final hours? Read on to find out.

The official description from Dark Horse:

Imperial Knight Jao Assam is awaiting execution, and Ania Solo is on a mission to intercede. But when it is discovered that Jao has escaped—with the Sith Darth Wredd—Ania has doubts about her friend. But she still has to rescue him, in case he isn’t a bad guy . . .

Star Wars-Legacy 16_Preview PageThe countdown to the end of this highly entertaining and smart addition to a galaxy far, far away is getting closer with each passing page. Even so it looks like, based especially on this outing, that the creative team is dedicated to see their portion of this storied franchise go out on a high note.

Corinna Bechko and Gabriel Hardman work together to pen this outing and this dynamic duo knows exactly how to push our heroes into what could be a final confrontation with Darth Wredd. Similar to what Emperor Palpatine did to Anakin Skywalker, our now abducted Imperial Knight, Jao Assam, is enduring the hard sell. Meanwhile his allies rush to either aid or stop him in an engaging text that feels like a straightforward intergalactic romp. It carries enough weight to get even the most discerning fanboy or fangirl invested in whatever the eventual outcome of this inevitable conflict indeed turns out to be.

Beyond the written word exists the illustrations handed in by Brian Albert Thies. The talent knows exactly how to layer the narrative without adding unnecessary debris. And it’s through that skill we see a distant future for the always familiar saga that perfectly suits Ania Solo and her companions. Add in the colors done by Jordan Boyd and I have literally no complaints about this inviting display that honestly, at times, makes me feel like I’m a kid again watching Star Wars movies with my dad.

Star Wars: Legacy #16 is that engaging space romp that does more than enough right to expand upon its own foundation while offering honest adventure for its devoted fanbase. Recommended.
