Shutter #2 Review

Will Kate escape capture? Read on to find out.

The official description from Image:

Kate Kristopher has been kidnapped by a robot, a few rat kids in cute outfits and a bunch of ninja ghosts. Luckily the NYPD pursues them in their flying saucers. Everything goes horribly wrong. Death happens.

Shutter #2 variantThe opening issue of Shutter astonished me as between the fabulous introductions with the intensity really grasped my interest. This second issue however not quite as much. The series remains brilliant but drops a significant amount from it’s near perfect first outing with the story being at a rather quick pace feeling a bit hectic at times.

Joe Keatinge manages to continue fantastically from the stunning cliffhanger with it’s opening also allowing people who missed the first issue to quickly catch-up. It was however quickly let down as though the action was through the roof it felt rather manic and random with it taking a while to show any real definition. Keatinge still managed to recover from this as the dynamic flow that followed along with yet another intense cliffhange has me longing for the next issue.

Leila Del Duca continues to deliver big time when it comes to the artwork on this series with her work on this issue being as good if not better. The beauty and high detail of her pencils make it hard not to linger as it leaves you with a desire for more. She also gives very dynamic layouts with the explosive opening action sequence being extremely eye-catching and exciting. Add Owen Gieni’s stunning colours to the mix and there is less and less reasons to dislike this art with it being simply phenomenal.

Shutter continues to be a fabulous series as despite the slightly busy opening it was a fantastic read. Highly recommended.
