Purgatori #2 Review

There are consequences to our actions. But should we care if this lethal women survives hers? Read on to find.

The official description from Dynamite:

Doomed to spend her days as a mindless ghoul, Purgatori struggles to keep her sanity. As if that’s not enough for the vampire goddess, an ancient and mysterious enemy wants her dead. Purgatori will have to rely on her wits to get out of this one… but how will she survive if she can’t think past her overwhelming thirst for blood?

Purgatori 2_Variant CoverFor a leading lady with an insatiability thirst and a trail of dead bodies in her vile wake, she certainly unearths a way to keep an audience locked in place. Sakkara finds herself in a considerable predicament, but there’s no need to worry because we have a creative team that clearly has designs beyond her current bout of suffering. And that right there, plus some spunk, keeps this supernatural yarn in play.

Aaron Gillespie pens the script and it’s clear that the author understands the source material. Through consistent cadences the comic book grows under the cloud of sturdy dialogue and a heroine, if you can call her that, that’s compelled forward due to blood lust. Looking back on what I read there’s no doubt that this scribe kept me glued to my seat while embracing the Chaos! universe in a way that absolutely fits the key realms inhabited by lethal Purgatori.

There were moments in this release where the pace dragged ever so slightly, but thankfully Javier García-Miranda delivered pencil strokes that picked up the narrative slack. Each panel is effortlessly guided by a well-trained hand with an eye for talent and detail. And when the colors by Viviane Souza come into play there’s no room or point to deny a visual display that’s largely inviting throughout the confines of this adult jaunt.

Purgatori #2 represents a line of comics that I missed out on as a kid. Despite that fact I now find myself in a situation where I’m happy to report that things are indeed good enough to easily earn a recommendation.
