Miss Fury #10 Review

Is this still a title you should honestly follow? Read on to find out.

The official description from Dynamite:

PHILADELPHIA 2 of 2. Miss Fury’s search for the missing Captain Chandler continues, and US Naval Intelligence are willing to give her the top secret location of Schauburger’s laboratory in Nazi Germany, but first she has to do something for them. A deal with the New York underworld to keep the docks safe from saboteurs and Axis agents has become a deal with the devil, as a new murderous costumed crazy has appeared calling himself The Mob. Miss Fury will have to return to her pulp roots in order to take down a super-villain who is all about respect…

Miss Fury 10_Variant CoverThere’s a lot at stake as the creative team builds up a confrontation that ends in an interesting but predictable way. Additional players enter the game while our vigilante continues to try and figure out what she going to do next.

Rob Williams pens a script that continues to capture the imagination as Marla Drake grapples with something that I’m sure many souls have had to deal with in their time. Murder is the question at hand, and its cost on an individual. With a universe seemingly shouting from its lungs that Miss Fury is a killer, we have a main character that wants to be something more. And through the words of our intrepid author we see that fact plainly revealed as the comic comes to a fitting cliffhanger.

The illustrations by Jack Herbert are once again a kinetic display that easily fits the festivities.  Highly detailed renditions of all the various cast members plus some instantly iconic design choices combine in an effortless flow that elevates this read. Add in the colors done by Ivan Nunes and we’re left with a display that offers charisma as the text debates the very essence of morality within the confines of its pages.

Miss Fury #10 may not raise the bar for an arc featuring a hero that’s killed, but it does shine a light on the subject while giving fans plenty to chew on. Recommended.
