SplinterCellEchoes04 1Splinter Cell: Echoes comes to it’s conclusion, with the four part interlude between Splinter Cell: Conviction and Blacklist ending in a very exciting way. Having continually gotten better with each passing issue, this series has quickly became one of the better comic book series taken from the world of video games. Despite this it’s not without its faults with there being a few minor points that bugged me.

Having done a fabulous job of bringing Splinter Cell to comic book readers, The Punisher/Black Widow writer, Nathan Edmondson brings this short tale to a gripping climax. Despite there being a moment halfway through when it seemed the story would end in an anticlimactic way, leaving unanswered questions, it turned out to be premature thinking on my part, with Edmondson turning things around quickly. On the other hand, this moment still caused a sudden fluctuation in pace, which ultimately meant the overall experience was a little off. Nevertheless it was still a fantastic end to a wonderful series.

Marc Laming‘s art has been one of the standout features throughout this series for me, as though Edmondson’s scripts have been enthralling, despite minor problems, the visuals have been flawless. Between the pure detail, and energetic layouts, Laming easily engages the reader, with the flow being constantly smooth. In addition he also give some explosive action, without it feeling eccentric or unrealistic. Add to this the mixture of dark and vivid colours from Ian Herring, and you get visuals that can be summed up in one word: phenomenal.

Splinter Cell: Echoes comes to an astonishing climax, with the four part mini proving to be one of the better video game comics. Highly recommended.
