Grimm Fairy Tales presents Robyn Hood #2 Review

The official description from Zenescope:

Robyn and Marian, now operating a small private investigation business out of their apartment, help people with non-traditional problems. That led them to Sam, the head of a roller derby team of young women who practice witchcraft. After experimenting with a dangerous mystical drug, the women were targeted by a demonic entity known as the priest, who captures Sam in order to lure Robyn and Marian to him.

GFT Robyn Hood 2_Variant CoverThe first arc of the now monthly adventures of GFT‘s own emerald archer continues to barrel forward. The creative team is spinning an easy to follow tale with just enough originality and spunk to give it room to stand out from the pack. And as we all journey forth and peruse the normal crowd of comics at our local shops, this release makes a case for why it should be on your pull-list.

Pat Shand handles the text and the author does a fine job with this growing narrative of drug addicted witches and a dark priest. What’s key here is the fact that Robyn Locksley has her personality front and center from beginning to end. We see a strong willed protagonist that wants nothing more than to protect innocents from a monster while combating her own issues. Add Marian to the mix and a few choice twists and the final result is something that will spark interest from both fanboys and fangirls.

The illustrations handed in by Claudia Balboni are bound to be attention grabbers. Every single sequence found here is given that right amount of style and detail, to the point that every moment feels rendered to the best of the talent’s ability. Add in the vibrant layers of color by Slamet Mujiono and the entire piece just feels gifted with a display that deserves praise as it makes the price of admission more than worthwhile.

Grimm Fairy Tales presents Robyn Hood #2 turns into an easy to score outing, as the creative team ups their quality while earning a recommendation from me.
