Grimm Fairy Tales presents Neverland: Age of Darkness #3 Review

Do we really want to return to this corner of the Grimm Fairy Tales universe? Read on to find out.

The official description from Zenescope:

Tinker Belle seeks out the new Queen of Neverland, Tiger Lilly, after a mysterious woman unleashes tiny terrors onto a small town. As Cross tries to help them, he’s about to come face to face with evil. The terrifying Goblin Queen comes to Neverland!

GFT Neverland-Age of Darkness 3_Variant CoverHeroes and villains march to get rid of each other with this realm caught in the crossfire. And in the end the creative team succeeds at crafting a solid yarn that carries a few inconsistencies but still manages to be wholly entertaining. So in other words this is a comic that’s worth your fan attention and any critics praise.

Joe Brusha works with script writer Dan Wickline to makes this adventure a reality. And the truth is as a penultimate issue this release had a simple but at times difficult task for. Setting up the final beats of a narrative path can be trying but the scribe does a tremendous job giving the audience competent dialogue and plenty to root. My one complaint is that a wrinkle that sets up a dire situation for these allies on two fronts screams that it’s too easy and more than likely a set up, but logic takes a holidays as the characters just go along with it.

In a universe as vast as this one its hard to have an artist that can not only deliver individual quirks for each character but also make them memorable. And Luca Claretti accomplishes that as the talent quite handily builds up a confrontation against a horde of goblins and our ragtag team of survivors. When it’s all combined with the stellar colors handed in by Renato Guerra we’re given a final product that ebbs and flows with personality. In short: the pretty pictures easily sell this romp staring Nathan Cross.

Grimm Fairy Tales presents Neverland: Age of Darkness #3 is a solid penultimate issue that accomplished what it needs to do, while still being entertaining to boot. Recommended.
