The official description from Dynamite:

Celebrate Chaos! 20th anniversary and Dynamite Entertainment’s 10th anniversary in 2014! The horror-heroes of the Chaos! Universe return in an epic event! A shared vision of the Apocalypse sets the blood goddess Purgatori, the supernatural serial killer Evil Ernie, the vampire assassin Chastity and the outcast teen heroes of the team known as The Chosen on a collision path with each other! As claws, blood and blades fly, only one outcome is assured: Total CHAOS!

Chaos 1_Variant CoverWhat we have is a very entertaining opening to what has the potential to be an engaging event series. Through the works of this creative team where given an intersection that quickly highlights and sets up the various players without stumbling into overly corny territory.

Tim Seeley pens the script and the author does a fine job getting all the cogs going. From Evil Ernie to the outcast team The Chosen there’s a lot of worthwhile elements here that will easily spark interest in the fan community. The biggest negative I can levy against this start is the fact that it pushes so much information onto its audience that it might leave the uninitiated more than a bit overwhelmed. Even so the author manages to keep a level of accessibility, but I would say that it might be beneficial to at least have a familiarity with the Chaos! universe.

The illustrations by Mirka Andolfo are detailed and highlight the assets in these pages. Sure it can be said that there’s exploitative panels which make use of the female form but there’s an element of consistent dedication that makes the whole thing digestible. Add in the dynamic colors by Walter Baiamonte and it’s clear that the visual side of this affair is off to a solid start. In short: the renditions are what you expect them to be.

Chaos #1 is a good start to a crossover and even a resurrection of sorts. Add everything together and your left with a comic that comes recommended.
