The Black Bat #11 Review

We’ve reached the eleventh hour for this hero, but should you care what happens to him? Read on to find out.

The official description from Dynamite:

Black Bat has managed to toe the line throughout his quest for redemption. But when someone close to him dies, will he finally cross that line and become a killer? Also, Oliver Snate’s mystery guardian angel pulls back the curtain and finally reveals himself… propelling this story towards its gut-wrenching conclusion.

The Black Bat 11_Variant CoverRight from the opening entry the creative team caught my attention with a solid set-up that carried just enough interesting elements to gain an audience. They’ve built up a strong run with this title, and as we march toward this volume’s final moments I can’t help but wish there’d be a bit more time before the final literary bell tolls.

Despite the imminent end Brian Buccellato offers up what feels like a proper penultimate issue. He gives his audience an action packed outing that places both our vigilante and his friend in the literal cross-hairs of the police. The trap is sprung and the dominoes come falling down as the romp reaches an emotional cliffhanger that perfectly sets up a very necessary confrontation. My one gripe is that I wish the pace could have been slower especially during certain moments in order to allow time for the ambiance of the situation to properly sink in.

Beyond the text this particular release focuses squarely on the works done by Ronan Cliquet. The visual maestro does a splendid job giving our hero some iconic panels while basking in a minimalist palette. To be frank, this is the talent’s best work to date as Tony Quinn feels the weight of his decisions during these dire days. Beyond that we have the colors done by Viviane Souza who brings more than enough to the table while enhancing a display that’s already downright impressive.

The Black Bat #11 is an engaging ride! If you haven’t been reading don’t start here but instead go back and catch up because trust me this is one title that’s worth your time. Recommended.
