Death Vigil #1 previewDeath Vigil is the latest in a line of new series from Top Cow with it being one that I personally have been looking forward to for some time. Telling a story of death and necromancy Death Vigil is your typical good vs. evil story with the Death Vigils being the protectors of the dead and the Necromancers looking to revive the dead. All and all the concept is very enthralling and with the exciting events of this oversized opening issue I can’t wait to see how things pan out.

Stjepan Sejic proves to be just as good a writer as he is an artist. Which really is saying something as he’s a phenomenal artist. The way that he lays out the foundations for this tale whilst also adding humour and excitement blew me away with there not being a single moment where my jaw wasn’t on the floor. Besides the excitement and humour Sejic also gave us some very shocking moments with the actions of a Necromancer named Jon being very shocking.

The artwork on this issue was simply phenomenal as expected. Sejic produces fabulous work on every single series he work for but I feel he’s really went above and beyond with this story. The fact that he’s also writing it probably has a lot to do with it as knowing the story inside and out he’ll have a definitive idea on how he wants it to look. As ever with Sejic’s art it’s his understanding of colours that impress me the most with the bold purples and reds being very eye-catching.

Death Vigil gets off to the perfect start with this fun and exciting tale of good, evil and death being very enthralling. Highly recommended.
