As we reach the end of their first arc, can the creative team strike true?  Read on to find out.

The official description from Dynamite:

This is IT. The culmination to the bloody WAR of VENGEANCE waged between two former sisters of the sword, DARK ANNISIA and RED SONJA! Annisia has done something no other god nor demon has been able to do, force Sonja to her knees in surrender. But Sonja returns, a changed woman, and she has a mighty SCORE to settle! The climax to the entire QUEEN OF PLAGUES saga is here!

Red Sonja 6_CWhat we have in our hands is a fitting conclusion to what has been an outstanding rebirth for the aged franchise.  We see the she-devil with a sword, exemplified, as all her worthwhile traits bubble to the surface in an issue that has her take action.  In short: this is a book full of adventure.

The script by Gail Simone is to the point, as the scribe takes our legendary fighter down a path that sees her final throws of revenge.  From the opening page to the final panel the text nails it, as the real villain stands revealed leaving limited time for Red Sonja to collect the heads she’s due.  There were some overly stiff conversations that left me a wee bit underwhelmed but the plot points and revelations within these confines easily made up for them.  The whole of the release felt like a fitting, but slightly unbalanced, end to an odyssey that brought in some interesting obstacles.

Walter Geovani delivers the visuals in all the best ways possible.  The talent effortlessly captures the raw essence and fluidity of battle, while yielding enough substance to make the emotional beats stick.  That’s the magic, as we bare witness to renditions that are expertly solid and handled well enough to craft a wonderful barrage of awesomeness.  To sum up: the pictures were pretty and more than worth the small price of admission.

Red Sonja #6 is an absolutely solid finish that delivers a comic that needs to be, as this saga comes to good close.  Recommended.
