The official description from IDW:

Oh NO, it looks like Buttercup was right all along! The Ex-Villains have reverted to their old ways and are tearing up Townsville! The Powerpuff Girls are out-numbered but never outmatched—that is, until the horrible shadow of HIM falls across the battlefield. Just when you thought things couldn’t get any worse, huh?

Powerpuff Girls 5_CPrepare to be heart-warmed by an issue that carries the trademark charisma of the aged property but still delivers its own two cents. When it was announced that this title was going to get a bit of a re-visit I was apprehensive with the idea, but after this opening arc I have to say my worries were unfounded. This is a comic for fans, and if you grew up watching this series than you should be buying this volume without question.

The script by Troy Little absolutely flowed with the cadences that made this a staple for many young adults and their childhood memories. What really worked here felt natural as our three heroines came face-to-face with a very predictable turn of events, that everyone could plainly see coming a mile away, the core mechanics made this whole thing function. To the author’s credit he delivered some corny moments with enough tenacity and grace to allow it the chance to not feel forced. So much so that I had a great swell of pride when I reached the ending.

Troy Little also tackles the art and the key thing here is that the book looks just like the TV show. It never strives to be more than what it is, and that right there is the only detriment it faces. Part of me respects the idea that it needed to do just that, but I also recognize that I’d like the talent to push a bit more. To perhaps offer something extra to up the ante.

Powerpuff Girls #5 is a great comic book for fans, that should be on their pull-list. Highly recommended.
