Pantha #2 Review

Pantha, destiny is calling you, but should comic fans care?  Read on to find out.

The official description from Dynamite:

Chaos spreads its dark influence across the desert while Pantha and her teammates Lorelei, Tongueman and Pendragon struggle to keep their alliance together. Mamba’s on the loose, innocent souls are suffering, and two mysterious new threats step out of the shadows! Pantha’s DANGEROUS GAME continues!

The opening story arc continues, as Pantha and her teammates attempt to figure out what do about the dark influence of Chaos.  It’s a fun little comic book that has goofy sounding characters and a bikini clad heroine as the protagonist.  Despite some new series growing pains, this issue succeeds enough to warrant a look.

Brandon Jerwa does a decent job writing a script that makes this story engaging enough, but there are moments where the sheer awkwardness of many of the elements therein bleeds through. When that happens it does take away from the overall reading experience, yielding an unbalanced but workable script.  It’s not that it’s a bad romp, but it’s the second part of an opening story arc and more often than not those are hard to get off the ground.

The art by Pow Rodrix is very solid and clean.  The body parts you would expect to be excentuated are exentuated, as the environments themselves succeed in complementing this goofy narrative.  The panels are dynamic and captivating, as the script allows the action therein to pilot this story to a strong finish.  This is the type of artist you want to have on a book starring Pantha.

This is a fun comic with some worthwhile features that ultimately make it a good buy.  To be honest there are some flaws here, and the content will only appeal to a select few, but if it’s up your alley you’ll easily enjoy this latest release.  Recommended.
