New Sandman Story from Neil Gaiman

At San Diego Comic-Con’s Vertigo Panel, Karen Berger, head of the creator-owned DC imprint, played a video of Neil Gaiman announcing a new, prequel series for The Sandman. J. H. Williams will draw the new book, which is scheduled for 2012.

Berger said Gaiman has a lot of surprises in mind for the series, many of which are unknown even to her. It should be six issues, due out  around this time next year.

Given the comic industry’s penchant for flipping the proverbial middle finger to creators (I’m looking at you Before Watchmen), Neil Gaiman’s return to this series is a damn good omen.  I’m expecting a very “swan song” esque farewell to the classic series.
