Morning Glories #20 Review

The mysteries at the Morning Glories Academy deepen, but should you pick this latest issue up?  Read on to find out.

The official description from Image:

Sister knows best.

Taking the time to flesh out the two main faculty, this story and this series leads the overall narrative into some bold and rather exciting directions.  By allowing the shared history of both Miss Daramount and Miss Hodge to be explored, readers are offered some insight into their relationship.  It goes without saying that a good deal of the subject matter in this book can be unsettling, but it is a very engaging and worthwhile read, for anyone who’s willing to give it a chance.

The script in this issue is chock full of reveal and dripping with succulent dialogue that succeeds in further cementing the depths of sordid insanity in this story.  Kudos to Nick Spencer for successfully shaking up the story enough to offer the main characters an even darker reality.  There are many questions that still need to be answered, but this issue succeeds in holding the reader’s attention from start to finish.  It’s not perfect by any means, but it is a great script that got me very excited for the next month’s issue.

Joe Eisma continues do a wonderful job with the art.  The panels are moody, the environment has a distinctive edge to it, while the characters themselves live and breath this engaging world.  The amount of detail contained here is near perfect as it successfully reflects the thought and care the writer put into the script.  This is the type of artistic consistency a reader hopes to see in any series they follow.

Overall this issue is a great read with exceptional art.  This story will not be for every comic fan out there, but those who are interested in its narrative will be thrilled with this latest literary jaunt.  Highly recommended.
