Mind the Gap #6 Review

EVERYONE IS A SUSPECT. NO ONE IS INNOCENT!

Mind the Gap is finally back with its sixth installment. It had a strong start, a slow middle, but got back on track. Six issues in and I have to wonder how long it can go before the reader gets tired of waiting for the the ‘Hoodie’ to reveal himself. So far it’s been doing a good job with keeping the readers on the edge of their seats. When you really look at it, it’s a soap opera in comic form with a little paranormal thing going on. This issue had me glued to the pages, it was really quite interesting.

Here’s the official description from Image:

“WISH YOU WERE HERE,” Part One
New Arc! Great Jumping on point! Join the mystery everyone is talking about!!
As one person sits in a jail cell for the crime of attacking Elle Peterssen, the accuser is running free. Is a pawn about to become pain? Meanwhile, Elle is on the brink of contacting the physical world, but will resurfacing memories drive her further away? This issue begins the ending of many relationships as you know them, secrets laid bare, and not everyone will make it out in one piece…

It’s the start of a new arc, Wish You Were Here. The opening page is quite stunningly bright and beautiful, it’s the room of Katie Lawrence, the girl Elle’s spirit is in. It’s in this girl’s mind where we learn how she was put in a coma, and it’s pretty brutal. (Not that it’s gory, but the circumstances surrounding it.) Soon we see Elle taking control and calling up Jo, which is where the last issue left off. This issue is probably the most fast-paced one yet, Jim McCann’s writing is off the charts this week, it kept me on the edge of my seat. The page where Katie just springs up of nowhere was a pretty big shock, and the dialogue accompanying it.

The art is pretty strong once again, with the highlight being the very first page. It’s just stunning, so a tip of the hat to artist Rodin Esquejo. Both the cover and variant are pretty good, with the former one being more striking in terms of the story. The most interesting part is the dialogue between Elle’s mom and the doctor. It’s all vague stuff, but interesting nonetheless. Hopefully we’ll get a big payoff soon. The ending also is something readers whom have been reading since square one will find intriguing.

Overall, a pretty strong issue of Mind the Gap. The writing is at its strongest, some really intense stuff going on. Technically not really much is revealed, but it grabs your attention and doesn’t let it waver. And it’s not a bad way to jump on if you’ve missed the first five issues, things look to get more intense as Mind the Gap continues.
