The Memory Collectors #3 Review

The Memory Collectors Banner

Is there enough substance within the confines of this book to make it worth paying attention to? Read on to find out.

The official description from IDW:

Series finale! Despite a tragic loss, the girls hone in on the source of their ills and make their final, fateful decision. Includes a six-page supplemental story by writer Jason Mote and artist Christopher Mitten (30 Days of Night/Criminal Macabre)!

The Memory Collectors 3_CAlright it’s here, the conclusion of what has been a truly unique experience. Handled slightly differently than the norm and embedded with deep themes I can honestly say that this trek has not been without its rewards. And to the creator’s credit he sends his property out on a high note!

The main feature by menton3 is a somewhat Shakespearean opus that reaches, what should be readily described, as a resolute climax. The scribe delivers an affair that adopts the stereotypical dialogue featured in comics while using pages that rely on a text heavy novel-like barrage. It’s not what you would expect from the average issue at your local shop, as this saga dealing with entities that pray on our very memories leaves me begging for more. There are some narrative shortcomings, as the pacing itself still feels rather sluggish, but even on the second read I couldn’t manage to put it down.

The art by menton3 is dark, somewhat disturbing but always engaging. He captures the fetish element combined with supernatural tendencies without ever robbing each of their own flavor. I did find that a couple of the depictions were a bit hard to fully understand on the first viewing but that might have been because I was too busy trying to absorb the details surrounding these renditions. In short: the release looked outstanding, to the point where you may lose your place on any given page.

The Memory Collectors #3 is not flawless but it is a high caliber entry, as it ignites my own interest and deserves to be on your pull-list. Add in the back-up feature by Jason Mote and Christopher Mitten and you have a package that’s a must own.
