Jinnrise #6 Review

With a strategy in motion and a new writer at the helm, can this series maintain the spark that’s made it an approachable piece of fantasy?  Read on to find out.

The official description from IDW:

To stop the Kibrani horde’s invasion of Earth, Andrew and his friends look to release the seven great jinn (genie) leaders.  A sound plan, but what happens when the first released is the jinn’s greatest traitor?

When aliens invade the Earth and our last hope is a genie with his motley crew there’s only one thing that’ll make it better… add another jinn to the mix! And that right there is what the creative team does in stellar fashion.  What we have here is something that’s going to please devoted followers and newcomers alike.

With a plot outlined by creator Sohaib Awan, David Liss has the right structure to continue this tale as the author makes his mark on the franchise. The dialogue might be the most noticeable alteration as a mix of spirits form an honest interpretation that has the intention to both expand and enlighten this burgeoning property.  I found the bulk of the journey continued with a naturally smooth flow despite the fact that there were several instances where new characters felt underdeveloped or the pace came off sluggish.  Despite that there was enough present to please the core members of the audience while making a solid argument for the future of this saga.

The art by Andrew Huerta does more than enough to create a chaotic vision that’s befitting this title.  Whether we’re dealing with slower moments involving the newest members of our team or action oriented sequences that highlight the strengths of this fellowship, the talent was more than up to the task at hand.  I found his depictions, for the most part, were easy to follow but there were a couple times that the panels seemed to lack a consistent quality which lead to a somewhat diluted rendition.

Jinnrise #6 is an excellent comic that once again proves worthy, as this series continues to be a must own.  Recommended.
