Jennifer Blood #34 Review

Jennifer Blood Banner

With only a limited amount of room to go before its series finale, has this franchise started to feel unnecessary?  Read on to find out.

The official description from Dynamite:

Oscar Blute betrayed Jen, took her children and left her for dead. Now, Oscar’s violent, brutal past is unveiled as he flees America and makes his way to the Blute family home in Europe, where his past is waiting to catch up with his future.

Jennifer Blood 34_CI can’t begin to express how much I enjoy the concept and world brought forth by this unique property.  Sure there have been other anti-heroes that have dispensed their own brand of justice, but there’s something about our main character’s innate mechanics that allow her legacy to continue on. That’s what the creative team endeavors to capture here and in a lot of respects they accomplish exactly that while filling in some necessary gaps.

Mike Carroll continues to lead the franchise in its twilight hours, as the scribe masterfully moves the pieces while highlighting the toll surrounding this family.  It’s through that innate honesty that the scribe cements the authenticity, so much so that when we reach the final panel the cliffhanger feels natural and deserved.  Along the way we get to see the cost to these two children, as their mother continues to exist in the wind while an air of uncertainty and death permeate their young lives.  The whole thing is tragic but easily followed, as the author puts some final nails in the series coffin.

The art by Kewber Baal is just as strong as its been.  The illustrations nail the human emotions and the violence when necessary.  From the first page to the final panel I’m left with very little to complain about except for a few limited fluctuations in some minor bodily formations.  Specifically there’s a scene where some quick movements leave our temporary protagonist  looking a wee bit unbalanced when compared with his prior work.

Jennifer Blood #34 is another strong entry in a title that I wish could go on forever but needs to reach its resolution.  Highly recommended.
