Indestructible #2 Review

Indestructible Banner

Does the comedy continue to carry this franchise? Or has the laughing simply stopped? Read on to find out.

The official description from IDW:

Everyone has questions for Greg Pincus, the world’s newest—and most accidental—superhero. But if Greg thought dealing with groupies, paparazzi, and the po-po was maddening, wait until he meets the self-important, sniping League of Defenders!

Indestructible 2_CWhat we have within this second outing is a logical continuation of the shenanigans found in the first release. We get to see the intelligence of this warped take of an origin story, with some genuine human elements, come out to play. There are shortcomings here and there, but ultimately thanks to a sturdy creative hand we’re given a comic book that’s still more than up to quality. Especially when we get a glimpse of the “real” superheroes, their team and how they function in this society.

The script by Jeff Kline carried enough wit and charisma to keep me entertained. But I did find a few gaps in thinking that bothered me, the mere fact that no one is noticing how our protagonist reacts to a simple punch to the gut comes to mind, or that reporters haven’t talked with his certainly doubting family members. Beyond that though, it’s a fun arc that kept me thoroughly engaged, To sum up: I just wish there would be a bit more logic behind these zany antics, because this author has certainly won me over with his verbal barrage.

The art worked from re-cap to finish, thanks to the solid efforts by both Javi Garron with Salvi Garcia. They captured the essence of the story without cheapening the momentum of its core elements. I specifically enjoyed the facial expressions, to put it simply: they went a long way in selling the physical aspects of the humor. No offense to the text but the illustrations were the best part in my opinion.

Indestructible #2 is a very entertaining read, that captures the imagination of superhero hopefuls while playing with the slacker genre. There’s a lot to like but there are some blemishes along the way. Recommended.
