Idolized #3 Review

This dynamic comic book series barrels on, but is this title really worth following?  Read on to find out.

The official description from Aspen:

Joule’s been kicked out of the Idolized competition! As she desperately attempts to find a way back in– if she does, will she be able to even survive the competition? Idolized kicks into high gear, as Joule faces off against the Top Ten finalists, the show’s producers, and her own seething cauldron of emotions, all in order to keep her desperate quest for revenge alive!

The story arc tightens as we head into the last legs of this competition.  Like an actual TV show recap we get a brief bit of history on what’s gone on this season on the American Idol equivalent for Superheroes.  The end result is a funny, disturbing but always engaging social commentary brought to you buy a talented creative team that delivers a really good third issue.

David Schwartz handles the script and the series writer does a marvelous job instilling the impact of the weight on the shoulders of our young heroine.  The superhero contestant, Joule, is facing some tremendous personal and real world odds to achieve her ultimate goal.  She’s after revenge, but in the process the author seeks to help the audience connect with our protagonist as he turns her into an every woman.  There are so many layers here, that as you read this comic book you appreciate the work on display even if some of the choices in the script can be quite questionable.

Pasquale Qualano does a superb job on the art, delivering an engaging world that’s more than on-par with the script.  His unique pencil strokes reveal an interesting array of characters and backgrounds that are simply full of believable depth.  I honestly have no complaints here, only praise, as the work turned in succeeds in selling the overall quality of this well-rounded release.

Idolized #3 is another sliver of fun from an engaging superhero book with a refreshing take on the current state of our society and the toll we all bare from the barrage of reality TV.  Recommended.
