Haunt #26 Review

Plot-lines build as one Kilgore loses his temper and the other thinks he’s losing his mind… but should you care?  Read on to find out.

The official description from Image:

The mystery of Still Harvey Tubman gets even more mysterious as the Kilgore brothers are forced to confront their own surreal, family dysfunction. Of course, the most important question of all is: WHO IS LADY HAUNT?!

The dynamic duo that makes-up Haunt are facing the future of their alliance as questions result in uncomfortable situations that reveal some solid character development.  From start to finish the creative team works hard to build on the existing foundations, as they attempt to tease what’s coming in the near future for these two uniquely linked brothers.

Joe Casey does a wonderful job scripting several poignant scenes between Daniel and Kurt.  It’s nothing new, but the psychological implications of what happens is simply interesting and reading it unfold was a tad bit disturbing.  Kurt has some issues with his rage while his younger brother is shown to be a bullied kid who is easily sympathetic to the reader and the series writer plays with that in two key moments in this very issue.  I can honestly say the stuff written here got me sufficiently excited to pick-up the future releases just to see where this all is going and despite not getting any answers I’m looking forward to reading them in the future.

Nathan Fox delivers some very solid panel work that yields a believable but interesting world.  Dynamic panels, chaotic lines, deformed shapes, all work in unison to fulfill a visual style that perfectly welcomes the script.  There were some moments where the flare that pervades the book and engulfs the senses causes a bit of a noticeable quality dip but it fails to damage the entirety of the sturdy work done here.

Haunt #26 is a good comic book that will entertain current fans as it steadily builds its next few arcs.  Recommended
