Grimm Fairy Tales presents Realm Knights Banner

The penultimate issue of this squad book is here, but is there enough meat for this comic to hold your attention?  Read on to find out.

The official description from Zenescope:

Don’t miss the blockbuster series that pairs fairy tales with horror icons, Medieval legends, Greek gods, and superhero action!

The Realm Knights have been defeated. With half of their team presumed dead, the surviving members go to desperate measures to stop the mighty Cronus, whose plan to claim Olympus as his own is moments from succeeding. As a Greek god joins the Realm Knights, the real battle begins!

Grimm Fairy Tales presents Realm Knights 3_CWith our heroines and their allies stuck in a very precarious situation we’re left with the question that’s been bubbling to the surface: can these defenders do anything to thwart the onslaught?  Truth is, probably, but right now it’s not a proven fact but there’s still plenty to enjoy as we jog to the finish.

As narratives go there’s plenty of worthwhile moments, thanks in part to series scribe Pat Shand. He takes the time to give each unique personality enough room to breath but there were some rocky moments where the world felt a bit overwhelming.  It was almost to the point that individual arcs felt buried under the grand designs unfolding around them. These extended festivities did exist with a plethora of justifications but I couldn’t shake the feeling that the scope of this entire odyssey ran a rough gambit between over saturation and under exposition.

Butch Mapa handles the visual side of this equation as he delivers an expertly realized set of panels.  From beginning toe end, the talent renders quality illustrations that echo the correct core elements fans have long associated with this brand.  There were some moments where more subtle details could have made a few of the players pop a bit more but for to be honest that missing ink did little to sully an otherwise sterling effort.

Grimm Fairy Tales presents Realm Knights #3 is without a doubt a good outing that entertains its audience while steadily preparing the way for next month’s climax.  Recommended.
