Grimm Fairy Tales presents Hunters: The Shadowlands #1 Review

Is the road leading to Grimm Fairy Tales Unleashed worthy of your time?  Read on to find out.

The official description from Dynamite:

The prelude to the biggest Grimm Universe event is here! Roman, Helsing, Masumi, Elijah, and Sela are the greatest monster hunters the world has ever known. That is until they all find themselves trapped in another dimension…a place of horror known only as the Shadow Realm. A prison to the most terrifying monsters in all of creation and also home to something much, much worse. Will the Hunters escape and find a way back to earth or is their arrival merely a precursor to a new terror being UNLEASHED on the Grimm Universe? From the writer of FLY, the Wonderland trilogy and Irresistible comes the new exciting series where the hunters have officially become the hunted. Welcome to the bottom of the food chain.

When the Being made himself known to the Grimm Universe, the lives of the heroes and villains were changed.  But seeing as he is a rather recent addition there needed to be a series to help explain him,or the timeline surround, and that’s what we get here.

Raven Gregory pens the script and the seasoned author instantly grabs the audience and just doesn’t let go until we reach the cliffhanger.  From beginning to end I was positively riveted by the scenarios at play here.  Bare in mind that at this point we’re dealing with yet another tie-in series but the saga being told here is nothing short of compelling as it fills in some gaps in order to solidify the threat being dealt with in the main event.

The combination of Tazio Bettin, David Cutler, Renato “Butch” Mapa Jr. and Oscar Celestini yields some interesting results.  From beginning to end the group offers some solid visualizations that capture the essence of this nightmare with simplistic but intricate panel work.  There were times that the variations between them brought forth some stark transitions that took a away from the experience.

Grimm Fairy Tales presents Hunters: The Shadowlands #1 is a solid release that comes recommended.
