Grimm Fairy Tales 2013 Halloween Special Review

It’s that time of year again, when horrors go bump in the night, but is this terrifying release necessary?  Read on to find out.

The official description from Zenescope:

Over the years Sela has faced a host of foes. The Piper, Headless Horseman, Jack Frost and the Scarecrow have all menaced her at one time or another. But she’s never had to face them all at the same time…until now! In the midst of a Halloween designed for Sela, Red and Robyn to have some fun all hell breaks loose and they find themselves in a fight for their lives. This is one Halloween they’ll never forget…if they manage to survive it!

I’ve had my fair share of complaints regarding issues such as this one, but thankfully on occasion an additional romp like this can turn out to be worthwhile. The creative team hits the mark with an awesome cast surrounded by addictive elements.

Dan Wickline and Pat Shand dazzle as the scribes behind a journey that takes the essence of the Grimm Fairy Tales universe and celebrates it.  The authors work together to spin a yarn that brings about comedy, drama and some revelations to the lives of Sela Mathers, Britney Waters and Robyn Locksley. Beyond that they also touch upon characters from all over the realms with both subtle and apparent references.  I have to say the best part is how it ties up with a surprise conclusion that’s bound to affect these steadfast Realm Knights.

Ricardo Jaime, Vincenzo Riccardi, Sergio Osuna and Joel Ojeda handle the art and to put it lightly: this is a prominent display of the varied talent that glides over this evolving narrative.  Each player offers their unique spin in mini-portions that all add up to an impressive visual experience.  I was let down by the transitions between them, but that did little to sully an otherwise beautiful body of work that highlighted the prominent features of this saga.

Grimm Fairy Tales 2013 Halloween Special is a must own that ignites a proper adventure in a universe populated by fairy tale monsters.  Highly recommended.
