Ed Brubaker is to comic books what Rick Santorum is to politics… in the sense that they both do some pretty crazy s***, but Brubaker isn’t a sociopathic misogynist (hopefully), so he can actually get away with it. As you remember, Ed B. was the guy to not only resurrect Bucky, Captain America‘s World War II bestie, but he also killed off Cap. Of course, we all knew that Steve Rogers would eventually return (this is comics, after all!), but that doesn’t matter… he killed Marvel’s chosen one, the Sentinel of Liberty himself. What makes it even crazier is that Brubaker created all of these seemingly bizarre stories in such eloquent and masterful ways, that even though they could have easily been discounted as Marvel ‘selling out’, they were actually celebrated by the community as some of the best Cap books… ever.
With all of that in mind, comedian John Roy decided to mildly “Roast” Brubaker at a recent event at Meltdown Comics. It’s funny, pithy, and really f***ing accurate, so give it a looksy.
