DC Event CONVERGENCE is GENIUS

I’ll admit that I grew up a Marvel guy, but there’s always been a part of my inner psyche that carried a torch for the company that had staple heroes like Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman. So it shouldn’t surprise people that when the New 52 got rolling it gave the perfect entry point for relative newbs like me.

Now over three years later we’re seeing the largest inter-dimensional crossover in, perhaps, the company’s history. So in other words it’s time to save up and get ready because Convergence is coming!

Convergence

What they’re doing is between April and May all their titles (including Vertigo) will go on hiatus as an 8 issue title and 40 two-part miniseries takes over their creative line-up. What that means is for two months no regular comics, instead we have this pile of heaping awesomeness!

This is a gamble! Marvel may be plagued by a never ending cycle that feels like a barrage of events that lead into other events but they’ve never done anything at this scale. DC Comics is embracing the insanity of multiple Earths, which they’ve done before, in a massive way that’s bound to see staple favorites return. And, my gut tells me, will probably result in a new realm where they’ve all been combined somehow.

Earth 2 World's End Apokolips NOW

This could be a creative renaissance springing right out of New 52: Futures End and Earth 2: Worlds End.

And for longtime readers this story will tackle the most-asked about questions since their company re-launched. According to Jim Lee:

What we’re really addressing is they all exist and have existed and exist within the framework of the New 52. ‘Convergence’ is in many ways the most meta epic event we’ve done.

Could it all be a bit much? More than likely. Will people go broke trying to get all these issues with 90% of them not being worth their price of admission? Possibly. Will this alter continuity? Most definitely.

But what do my fellow fanboys and fangirls think? Are you on board with this mammoth amount of shenanigans? Or will you skip DC for two months to see how this shakes out?
