DC Cancels HELLBLAZER and Launches CONSTANTINE

Today DC announced the cancellation of their long running Vertigo series Hellblazer, but take heart fans you’ll still be able to follow the adventures of that chain-smoking mystic-man of awesomeness via a brand new title set to launch in March.

The new ongoing series will be written by upcoming Demon Knights writer, Robert Venditti, with Renato Guedes tackling the art.  This comic will be apart of the New 52 line-up.

The forthcoming series scribe had this to say about the character:

Few characters in comics are as complex and entertaining as John Constantine, and I’m finding him to be every bit as enjoyable to write as he is to read.  It’s my goal to have the new Constantine series be equal parts familiarity and surprise. This will be the Constantine we all know and love, but facing new and unexpected challenges from both inside and out.

As for the Vertigo series, fans can continue to enjoy that until its 300th issue, which is due out in February.

There you have it guys, Hellblazer has fallen victim to the creative swirl of mixed apples known as the New 52, but is that a bad thing?  Could it really be a more than solid move for the character and his franchise going forward?  What do you think?  Sound off with your thoughts and opinions in the comments section below.
