Chosen #3 Review

The final issue of this three part mini-series is here, but does it close out on a high note?  Read on to find out.

The official description from Dynamite:

An original comic book series created by filmmaker Marcus Nispel (Friday the 13th, Texas Chainsaw Massacre).

The epic finale the Chosen saga. After the unsettling conversion of Ryan’s mentor from master to madman, Ryan and Ashley retreat to a remote and idyllic setting far away from the madness of their past. For Ryan, this fragile existence is nothing more than his biding time until the inevitable onslaught of fate. One last confrontation looms with the one warrior that will determine the course of the future for all – himself.

Whenever a character is faced with the weight of destiny it’s usually interesting to see how they react and that’s no different here.  Our protagonist comes to terms with the fact that he is the Chosen one even as this brief romp into a rather fantastical ruse comes to a somewhat abrupt conclusion.

Gotham Chopra does a solid job handling this final script.  The dialogue iteslf is not nearly as wordy as it has been in previous outings, instead the bulk of this extravaganza is strongly focused on delivering a quickly paced romp that ends just when it starts to get interesting.  These three interconnected issues built up the character and his world quite well but ultimately failed to deliver on any of the varying plot threads.  In the end this title left me a bit underwhelmed, but it was still fun while it lasted.

Edison George and Liquid Comics join together to deliver a fantastic presentation from beginning to end.  Each proverbial pencil stroke ebbs and flows with a level of intent that simply evolves the atmosphere of this title in order to bring about some level of legitimacy.  The absolute strongest feature is the stellar artwork as it successfully informs and expands the scope of this saga.

Chosen #3 offers a somewhat fitting end that ultimately fails to conclude the various plot threads contained in this story.  Despite that though it still musters the gumption to give readers an engaging journey that earns a recommendation.
