2000AD #1898 Review

2000 AD 1898It’s another week, so 2000AD #1898 brings the weekly updates of Judge Dredd, Aquila, Brass Sun, Black Shuck and Jaegir. Let’s take a closer look.

First up is Judge Dredd. Michael Carroll delivers an explosive continuation of the current plot. Carroll’s script isn’t very tense, however, as it barrels through the action rather than savoring the moments. It’s great, but there’s no suspense or anticipation. Likewise, Gary Caldwell’s colors add vibrancy and variety to Paul Marshall’s art.

Next up is Aquila. Gordon Rennie’s script offers enough action, but it’s still crawling to it’s final point. While the gritty artwork of Leigh Gallagher, with colors from Dylan Teague, does its best to help, Aquila needs to quicken its pace.

After this is more Brass Sun. Ian Edginton offers plenty of action with a little of humor sprinkled in along the way. It’s dynamic and exciting, going well with the vibrant, fluid art style of Inj Culbard.

This is followed by more Black Shuck. I can’t say I completely follow Leah Moore and John Reppion’s story, but it is exciting and does its best to entertain. Still, it’s a little confusing at times and the artwork from Steve Yeowell offers very little, although that may be due to Chris Blythe’s excessive use of blue.

Finally, we have the end of the current Jaegir. Gordon Rennie writes up an excellent conclusion, full of explosive action and a satisfying ending. Simon Coleby’s pencils are sharp and dynamic, with Len O’Grady providing plenty of sharp colors.
