2000AD #1885 Review

2000AD-1885With 5 titles in 1 release, titles like 2000AD #1885 are hard to argue with, so long as there’s something to suit your tastes. This week, we have Judge Dredd, Grey Area, Slaine, Tharg’s 3rillers and Indigo Prime.

First up is Judge Dredd with more of Michael Carroll’s latest script. This week is really more of the same, only escalated, so it makes for a very tense and action filled issue. This also goes well with the beautifully bleak artwork from Nick Percival, making for a very unique and worthwhile issue of Dredd.

Next up is more Grey Area. Dan Abnett really advances the plot here and most readers will be left waiting for the next issue thanks to the cliffhanger at the end. Aside from the well written script, Mark Harrison provides plenty of visuals that do a good job of capturing Grey Area‘s bleak, titular setting.

After this is more Slaine. After some previous padding, Pat Mills starts to write a more intense story that is certainly building up to something. That said, it still has some of its trademark humor along the way and Simon Davis still offers some amazing artwork in the mean time.

There’s also the final chapter in the current Tharg’s 3rillers. Eddie Robson offered a fun story from start to finish and gives it enough depth to carry the action along. While there’s no amazing surprise twist, it’s a satisfying ending and Andrew Currie’s pencils – with Abigail Ryder’s artwork – are nice to look at.

Finally, we have more Indigo Prime.  John Smith’s script is certainly well thought out but it is rather slow and issues like this offer very little, instead choosing to tease out future promises. Still, it’s an interesting concept and Lee Carter’s artwork single highhandedly holds up the title during dull moments like this.
