Looks Like Star Wars Battlefront 3 For 2012

For the past few weeks we’ve been reporting the latest industry scoops about game developer Spark Unlimited‘s mysterious first person shooter. So far, all signs have pointed to the possible rebirth of Star Wars Battlefront 3, especially after the last round of rumors and images.

Well, it looks like we have a bit more evidence that Battlefront will hit in 2012. Our friends at Playstation Lifestyle have done some digging around in Spark’s job listings, especially those they’ve listed on the networking behemoth LinkedIn. Just check out this listing they found:

Spark is looking for a senior combat designer for a 3rd Person Action/Adventure sequel in a high-profile science fiction franchise currently greenlit for full production development for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC markets.

Even though that statement is pretty promising, it’s not enough to justify our certitude about this being Battlefront 3… at least not by itself. But, lucky for us, Spark revealed a bit more about the project through the writing of John Lawrie, a former Senior Software Engineer. In a post, he leaked that this same game would be an…

Unannounced third person sword fighting game (well known IP, Xbox 360, PS3)

And then Cesareo Gutierezz’s went on to post in his own LinkedIn profile…

I have been working for three years in a AAA third person shooter using Unreal Engine and Kynapse AI middleware.

So…we know there’s a game based on an extremely popular property that will combine shooting mechanics and swordplay. Now, how many games have featured that in the past? You know, besides Halo and Star Wars? That’s right. Not very many.

And guess what the cherry on top of this whole story is… Spark is going to be launching this project in 2012. It looks like we might be a little closer to SWBF 3 than we thought.

So what do you guys think? Likely? Too dubious? Sound off below.
